Course overview

The aim of this course is to equip interior designers with the advanced professional skills and critical understanding necessary to create inclusive and accessible environments. Building upon foundational knowledge in design, this studio course will challenge students to apply innovative design principles and techniques to develop spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also cater to the diverse needs of all users demanded by the profession.

Course learning outcomes

  • apply advanced inclusive design principles to create interior spaces that are accessible, functional, and welcoming for individuals of all genders, First Nations, and those with disabilities
  • Design based on a deep understanding of cultural contexts and human behaviours, enabling them to design with empathy and ethical consideration
  • acquire the skills to incorporate sustainable design strategies and materials that support inclusion while balancing aesthetics
  • master effective communication strategies and understand the professional standards and regulations related to inclusive design
