Course overview

This course aims to equip students with knowledge and skills to analyse the human aspects of cyber security. Building upon introductory cyber security concepts, the course covers topics such as identity management, social engineering, organisational and societal behaviours. By investigating the human factors of cyber risk, students will develop problem-solving skills essential for identifying key strategies to address the human factors that underlie cyber risk; mitigating cyber risk through people solutions; building a cyber awareness campaign.

Course learning outcomes

  • Describe concepts and theories relevant in the human aspects of cyber security
  • Evaluate different models from crime theory to assess the impact of corporate, social and ethical responsibilities
  • Apply critical, cultural and ethical awareness of human factors to develop effective policies that protect against common cyber threats
  • Evaluate the potential success of proposed regulatory and resource efficiency approaches to behaviour modification using ethical frameworks
  • Develop a cyber security awareness program to increase the organisation’s ability in the cyber hygiene area
