Course overview
The aim of this course is to give students the skills to understand the major issues for the provision of readers' advisory and reading in schools and public libraries for adults, children, and young adults; including how to develop an inclusive, relevant and community focussed collection.
Course learning outcomes
- Formulate and appraise a range and selection of materials for all ages.
- Articulate the educational role of reading and collections in the development of children, young adults, and adult literacy and digital literacy.
- Design readers' advisory as an aspect of the learning roles in public and school libraries.
- Create an effective and useful LibGuide using a library software on genre and collections aspect of Readers' Advisory service.
- Critique a range of materials that could increase the availability to potential readers.
- Design and appraise collection management principles of physical and digital collections in public and school libraries.
