Course overview

The aim of this course is to prepare students for information and records management work through analysing and evaluating information and records management principles, theories, models, standards, and processes and how these are practically applied in modern organisations. Students will be expected to research current and emerging issues in information and records management in government and industry.

Course learning outcomes

  • Evaluate the governance and practice of information and records management within the broader strategic, governance, and technological framework of modern organisations.
  • Research, discuss, and reflect on the business requirements for the creation, capture, management, retrieval, accessibility, and disposal of information and records.
  • Compare the management of information and records in electronic document and records management systems and other business systems and assess the relevant standards that guide their management.
  • Evaluate the functions and processes of information and records management issues such as authenticity, reliability, and accessibility.
  • Critique the theories and models for information and records management and their applicability to the modern workplace.
  • Propose solutions for the effective management of new and complex forms of information records including social media and databases.
  • Discuss the ethical and social justice implications of information and records management.
