Course overview
The aim of this course is to provide students with a conceptual foundation and context of information technologies, Internet, World Wide Web, and digital publishing as used in information-intensive professions. An overview and a developmental history of how computers, telecommunications, networking, and digital publishing functions and interactions in the information professions. The course will also cover Webpage design, accessibility, Web 3.0 tools, content management systems, cloud technologies, and emerging technologies. Technology management and planning within the information professions will be a focus.

- Examine and describe how information technology, telecommunications and the World Wide Web operate within libraries, archives, Records Management, and the information profession.
- Contrast and compare the different approaches to information management and control, across libraries, archives, museums, and Records Management.
- Evaluate the scope and efficacy of current enterprise and management systems within the information industry.
- Demonstrate familiarity with technology planning and maintenance.
- Analyse and develop a technology plan.
- Assess and evaluate library technologies.
- Assess websites, web 2.0, web 3.0 and social media in the information industry.
