Course overview

Develop the skills and practices to adopt a collaborative and automated approach to software development and IT operations. Building upon previous knowledge of software development practices, students will develop an understanding of how development processes, pipelines, and tools impact software development. Students will learn approaches and tools to support effective, efficient, and secure software development and deployment.

Course learning outcomes

  • Analyse the principles and benefits of DevOps, emphasising the role of collaboration and automation in software development
  • Select collaboration strategies and tools used to enhance communication and cooperation between development and operations teams
  • Identify automation techniques, such as Infrastructure as Code (IaC), to streamline and accelerate software development and deployment processes
  • Evaluate the suitability of Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery (CD) pipelines for different types of projects and environments
  • Evaluate the significance of configuration management and monitoring in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of software systems
  • Analyse the integration of Agile methodologies with DevOps practices, identifying synergies and potential conflicts
