Course overview

This course will introduce networking concepts and technologies for the design and implementation of small to medium sized networks. This course willpics covered in this course include: introduction to networks, basics of network protocols and communications, the OSI and TCP/IP networking models, IP addressing and subnetting IP networks, network design, and network operating systems and configuration of networking devices.

Course learning outcomes

  • Identify current technology trends and their impact on the network with consideration of strategic business objectives.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of networking models and the role of protocols and standards.
  • Design and configure a small to medium sized network using appropriate hardware and network protocols.
  • Design and apply an appropriate IP addressing scheme to fulfil given requirements.
  • Describe the importance of network management including security, performance and fault management.
