Course overview
This course develops students’ advanced knowledge of the theory and practice of managing workforce capabilities strategically, including planning and data analytics, engagement and work design, diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI), recruitment and retention, learning and development, reward and performance management, health and safety, sustainability and social responsibility. This course explores how alignments between human resource management (HRM) functions and the organisation’s overarching strategic goals and objectives are achieved and delves into the ‘best-fit’ approach to managing workforce capabilities. Students will explore how the present and future set of knowledge, skills and abilities of the workforce are essential to enable an organisation to adapt and succeed in dynamic business environments.
Course learning outcomes
- Critically examine and analyse the evolution, practice and theoretical interpretations of Strategic Human Resource Management
- Identify and explain workforce capabilities in both formal study and practical application
- Analyse and apply recent innovations in Strategic Human Resource Management theory and practice in relation to workforce capabilities
- Undertake an environmental and organisational assessment, and propose organisationally appropriate human resource strategy and operational practices in relation to workforce capabilities, including a framework therefor
- Understand the ethical and international dimensions of the practice of Strategic Human Resource Management, and integrate this awareness into the practice of Strategic Human Resource Management in relation to workforce capabilities
- Demonstrate skills in problem solving, self-management, ethical awareness, written and oral communication, respecting cultural diversity, and applying global perspectives
