Course overview
The aim of this course is to develop an understanding of the professional, ethical, and clinical aspects of clinical exercise physiology practice and to develop clinical skills in communication, clinical reasoning, behaviour change, exercise adherence and evidence based practice. Professionalism of the Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) within the Australian healthcare system, evidence-based practice models, clinical reasoning, counselling, behavior change and self-management, approaches to long-term adherence, interpersonal communication and clinical documentation.
Course learning outcomes
- Perform and document subjective assessments with clients who experience chronic complex health conditions.
- Communicate and liaise with clients, family, health professionals and other key stakeholders demonstrating an advanced level of interpersonal skills and social and cultural awareness.
- Demonstrate clinical reasoning skills and evidence based practice in a client centered clinical environment.
- Apply behavior change techniques to motivate clients to self-manage exercise and a healthy lifestyle.
- Demonstrate an ability to practice in a socially and culturally sensitive manner for a diverse range of clients including Australian Aboriginal Peoples.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of national, state, and compensable scheme frameworks, policies and practice across the health care, aged care, and disability sectors, as they relate to the accredited exercise physiologist.
