Course overview
The aim of this course is to provide students with knowledge and understanding of the musculoskeletal anatomy of the human body. Anatomical terminology, regions and planes; upper limb; lower limb; head, thorax; abdomen; pelvis; musculoskeletal system (spine; bones; joints; muscles; soft tissues; surface anatomy ); cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal and genitourinary systems.
Course learning outcomes
- Define and explain anatomical terminology of directions, planes, motions and major tissues.
- Identify muscles, nerves, bone structure, major blood vessels.
- Explain the function of joints, nerves and muscles of the limbs, spine, trunk and thorax.
- Accurately locate and name clinically relevant surface anatomy features.
- Use respectful language and behaviour in handling, positioning and palpating friends and family.
