Course overview
This course will develop students' foundational knowledge of health and culture from a local, national and global perspective. Health definitions and perspectives; models of health and wellbeing; globalisation of health; determinants of health; health and social justice; health of individuals, communities and populations; World Health Organisation; Australian and international healthcare systems; Australian health priorities; primary health care principles, health promotion; epidemiology and health measurement; cultural identity and cultural safety.

- Explore how cultural identity may shape understanding of health and healthcare delivery.
- Discuss the determinants of health and their relationship to health outcomes.
- Discuss how primary healthcare principles impact on determinants of health.
- Discuss the healthcare needs and priorities for Australians and the impact of these on the individual, family and community.
- Compare and contrast systems of healthcare nationally and internationally.
- Explain concepts of epidemiology and their application to health measurement.
