Course overview
This course aims to provide learners with the knowledge to understand the neurophysiological basis of human movement. Building on foundational knowledge, this course will develop an advanced understanding of the neural control of human movement, by focussing on specific functions performed by different parts of the neuromotor system, and how this system adapts to increases and decreases in muscle use. Learners will be provided with critical thinking and problem-solving skills, along with the technical knowledge to understand how humans perform successful movements. This course will provide a comprehensive understanding of nervous system function and how movement quality can be improved in health and disease, providing knowledge that is useful in biomedical and health-related fields.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the neurophysiological processes that contribute to successful movement control in humans
- Demonstrate an understanding of the factors that contribute to changes in neuromotor function and motor behaviour throughout the lifespan
- Describe the motor deficits that accompany common disorders of the sensory and motor systems related to motor behaviour
- Utilise effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address questions related to the neural control of human movement
- Utilise effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address questions related to the neural control of human movement
- Acquire knowledge on neurophysiological techniques
