Course overview
The aim of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the pathophysiology and treatment of diseases and disorders affecting the central and peripheral nervous systems. Students will learn from expert researchers, clinicians and patients with lived experience. Students will work in small teams to review current literature and develop critical thinking skills to deliver a creative group presentation to address a topical question in Neuroscience. The course builds upon prerequisite knowledge in neuroscience, anatomy, physiology and pathology and aligns with the Program objectives to provide deep Discipline knowledge of the nervous system in health and disease.

- Use and understand terminology for the field of neurosciences correctly and contextually
- Understand the pathogenesis of common neurological diseases and disorders
- Correlate clinical features with the causes and mechanisms of neurological disease and disorders
- Evaluate how knowledge of pathological processes can be utilised in the investigation, management and prevention of neurological diseases and disorders
- Acquire, read, interpret and synthesise information from a wide variety of sources to communicate a scientific topic
- Underpin understanding of neurological diseases and disorders with an appreciation for the diverse lived-experience perspective
