Course overview
This course focuses on the preparation of design professionals to enter industrial practice. Students will consolidate their learning in both design practice and theory to develop effective graphic communication design outcomes demonstrating advanced skills in conceptual thinking, typography, image design, critical analysis and design research, in response to varying demands and situations. All work will be independent and self-directed with critical feedback provided by peers, staff and industry professionals. Students will be expected to practice professional levels of conduct with understanding of the social and ethical role of designers, encouraging and challenging them to create works suitable for submission to national and international communication design awards, and the preparation of an industry-standard portfolio.

- Apply creative, iterative and critical thinking to effectively address diverse communication tasks
- Synthesise information from a range of sources to generate and evaluate the suitability of industry-level design propositions relative to context
- Visually communicate using advanced skills in typography, graphic and image design, and by selecting, evaluating and integrating appropriate design methods suitable to purpose
- Critically interpret social, ethical, and environmental impact of design practice
- Develop awareness of, and evaluate issues and responsibilities related to professional practice
