Course overview
This course aims to equip learners to analyse and evaluate typographic knowledge and apply this to generate typographic layouts and structures for reading texts in print and on screens of different sizes and dimensions. Building on concepts and knowledge introduced in Typography Studio 1, this course explores, in greater depth, the use of layout and grid, typographic cueing, typographic structures, line lengths, size, space, and visual hierarchy to facilitate readability of long-form textual content. By examining research-informed principles and best practices of typography, students will develop the critical thinking and practice-based skills needed to create and assess typographic systems for diverse reading audiences of printed documents and on-screen reading contexts. The course is aligned to the program’s intent to help students articulate ideas and develop design knowledge in typography in appropriate formats for a range of audiences.
