Course overview

This course aims to introduce students to industry-standard software and help them attain proficiency in its use. As a foundational level course, it will explore the application of digital tools in designing outcomes for both screen and print. Students will develop skills in document creation, management, and output, as well as in colour management, image creation, composition, resolution, and layout. This course enhances students' ability to produce outcomes for other courses in their program.

Course learning outcomes

  • Attain proficiency in industry-standard software tools for creating, editing, and managing graphic elements for print and screen
  • Develop proficiency in text and page layout design, including organising content, structuring visual elements, and optimising layouts for readability and visual appeal
  • Attain proficiency in raster image editing, including resolution management, image retouching, compositing, and colour correction for print and screen applications
  • Gain proficiency in creating and editing vector-based graphics, including drawing shapes, applying effects, and managing colour for diverse design projects
  • Understand principles and techniques of colour management to ensure accurate colour reproduction and consistency across different output formats and mediums
  • Attain techniques for optimising designs for print and screen outputs, including file format selection, resolution settings, and colour mode adjustments, to produce professional-quality outcomes
