Course overview

To provide students with an appreciation of their capacity to contribute to a more sustainable future in terms of environmental integrity, economic viability, and a just society for present and future generations.

Course learning outcomes

  • Describe the processes and interactions of living and physical systems that support the functioning of the Earth System
  • Articulate the impact of social, cultural, political, economic and technological systems, structures, beliefs and actions on the functioning of the Earth System and that influence the capacity for people, both individually and collectively, to live sustainably
  • Think systemically and holistically about natural resource management and social and economic development
  • Apply sustainability concepts to a variety of disciplines and contexts
  • Provide critical discourse on changes required to move toward sustainability goals
