Course overview

This course equips students with a comprehensive understanding of climate change policies at global to local levels. Foster critical analysis of key policy frameworks and their implementation using interdisciplinary approaches grounded in sustainability principles. Develop students; ability to propose innovative solutions to address climate change challenges. Prepare them to engage in informed debates and contribute meaningfully to the discourse on sustainable environmental management and climate resilience.

Course learning outcomes

  • Analyse and evaluate the effectiveness of climate change policies, considering factors such as stakeholder engagement, policy implementation processes and equity across space and through time
  • Apply interdisciplinary perspectives to critically assess the complex interactions between climate change, geographical factors, and policy responses at local and national scales
  • Develop proficiency in interpreting and synthesising policy documents and socio-economic indicators to inform evidence-based decision-making and policy advocacy
  • Demonstrate skills in effective communication, collaboration, and negotiation to understand diverse stakeholders and consensus-building around climate change policy solutions
  • Demonstrate the ability to propose innovative and sustainable approaches to climate change mitigation and adaptation, integrating geographical knowledge with ethical considerations and principles of social justice
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the socio-political dimensions of climate change policy, including key international agreements and national and local adaptation policy
