Course overview
The aim of this course is to introduce students to the principles of feasibility studies for mining projects. Students will be able to develop in this course skills in optimal mine design, production scheduling, equipment selection, cost estimation and project evaluation, as well as the preparation of a mine pre-feasibility study document.
Course learning outcomes
- Conduct mine design and planning, taking into account: Data analysis and interpretation Mine optimisation using proper geometrical, geotechnical and economic parameters Mine layout Scheduling Geomechanics and ventilation
- Social and environmental impacts of mining,Perform mine development planning, production scheduling and equipment selection
- Conduct economic evaluation of mining projects
- Operate effectively mine design and optimisation software packages
- Develop team skills in project management
- Advance written and oral communication skills
