Course overview
This course teaches and trains reservoir modelling and simulation of underground geological formations: basic equations for flow in porous media; formulations of the mathematical models; analytical methods of their solution; numerical methods of their solution; structure and main features of industrial commercial software Eclipse and CMG; modelling of the main types of underground flows including CO2 and hydrogen gas storage, depletion of gas fields, geothermal exploitation, and conventional gas- and oilfields. The course includes practical training on CO2 and H2 storage prediction by reservoir simulation.
Course learning outcomes
- Develop basic mathematical model for two-phase compositional transport
- Derive an analytical model for two-phase flow during CO2 storage
- Perform analytical and numerical simulation for radial flow and compare the results
- Perform the simulation of CO2 storage in 2D system of wells
- Perform the simulation of CO2 storage in 2D layer-cake reservoir
- Analyse simulation data and predict the well and reservoir behaviour of CO2 storage
