Course overview

This course aims to provide a comprehensive and practical understanding of the impacts both positive and negative that mining may have on society and the environment. It also provides an appreciation of management principles and practices vital to a mine manager's successful running of a mining enterprise.

Course learning outcomes

  • Understand legal, political, economic and ethical aspects of mining in Australia and overseas
  • Remember principles of sustainable development in the context of mining practices
  • Analyse leading practices in environmental management of mine site and evaluate their implementation
  • Create enviornmental management plan (EMP)Understand corporate responsibility
  • Evaluate social/community impacts of mining and develop management strategies
  • Apply management theory and processes, including principal performance measures used in mine management
