Course overview
This course will expose students to contemporary technologies, methodologies and practices, evaluating energy in the broader context of the society we live in, and the multitude of environmental impacts associated with our use of different forms of conventional and renewable energy resources. Links between energy, society, the environment and technology development, including: Where, why and how energy is used; Case studies: societal responses to energy crises; Current and future sources of energy, and the implications of such choices; Sustainable energy: technology, application, practices and policies; Greenhouse gases and emissions; National and international environmental implications of energy consumption; Integrating sustainable energy into existing and future energy scenarios; Energy markets and government regulators; Contemporary instruments in energy finance.
