Course overview

This course aims to provide engineering students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles and applications of fluid mechanics. By the end of this course, students will be able to: a) Apply the fundamental concepts of fluid statics, kinematics and dynamics, b) Analyse the behaviour of fluids in various engineering systems using analytical and empirical methods, and c) Plan and evaluate systems involving fluid flow. It will form the basis for further learning in Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Computational Fluid Dynamics and Air Conditioning.

  • Fundamentals Of Fluid Mechanics
  • Internal Flows
  • External Flows

Course learning outcomes

  • Apply the concepts, definitions and theories used in fluid mechanics to mechanical engineering systems
  • Apply fundamental principles of fluid mechanics to internal and external flows
  • Apply the priciples of dimensional analysis to scale model testing in fluid systems
  • Demonstrate the use of the fundamental equations of fluid mechanics, including the Navier-Stokes equations and the energy equation, to solve engineering problems
