Course overview
The course aims to provide comprehensive and practical understanding of the impacts both positive and negative that mining may have on society and the environment. It also provides an appreciation of management principles and practices vital to a mine manager’s successful running of a mining enterprise. Major topics on management to be covered are mining law, safety and risk management; minerals economics and mine cost structure; management fundamentals and mine operations management. On completion of this course, students should be able to identify, analyse and apply state-of-the-art techniques in environmental management of mine sites as well as identify major issues and management strategies associated with social/community impacts of mining in Australia and internationally. On completion of the course the students will have knowledge of management principles and practices vital to a mine manager’s successful running of a mining enterprise.
