Course overview
This course provides an overview of the role of operations management and digital technologies in today's world and introduce students to the analytical skills, tools and techniques required to be successful in business. In this course, students gain an understanding of the basic requirements for managing, designing, delivering and improving goods and services, which are core elements of any business activity. Operations primarily relate to tasks and activities that the organisation performs to produce goods and/or services to meet the needs of its customers. Efficient and effective business operations help companies reduce business and operational costs and increase customer satisfaction, which is why managing it is essential. This course also introduces the field of operations in a realistic, practical way. Students are assessed through contributions, reflections and an examination.
Course learning outcomes
- Explain principles, theories and skills for engineering operation management
- Develop a strategic approach for enhancing competitiveness, improving productivity, and achieving organisational vision/mission and goals
- Apply appropriate forecasting demand method and inventory management techniques to optimise inventory levels, minimise holding costs, and prevent stockouts
- Evaluate and apply various analytic tools for effective operation management
- Demonstrate effective communication skills for operation plans, strategies and performance metric with a case-study
