Introduction to the surveying profession, surveying instrumentation and measurement and recording techniques. Review of trigonometry and solutions of plane triangles. Processing of field data and computation of height, coordinate, area, and volume information. 2D linear transformations. This course willpographic field surveys and terrain representation including introduction to electronic data capture, survey data processing and plan drafting. Elementary CAD principles used in electronic survey data presentation. Overview of differential GNSS systems and applications.

Course learning outcomes

  • Evaluate different survey techniques and their application within various surveying environments.
  • Critically review electronic distance, angle, and height measurement equipment.
