Course overview
This course will provide an overview of fundamental and key enabling technologies in various modern communication systems. Satellite communications, Software defined radio, 5G enabling technologies (e.g. MIMO, beamforming, small cells, OFDM waveform designs), channel sounding and phase array, OFDM in fibre optical communications. NOTE: Conceded and Terminating passes will be available to undergraduates taking this course but not to postgraduates.
Course learning outcomes
- Critically review the key modern technologies in satellite communications, next generation wireless technologies and fibre optical communications (PO1, 2, 4) (EA 1.3, 1.4, 2.1)
- Apply computer simulation techniques to simple digital transmission scenarios and report results (PO 1, 2, 4) (EA 1.1, 1.4, 2.1, 2.2, 3.2)
- Demonstrate applied knowledge and skills of Software Defined Radio including documentation (PO 1, 4, 7) (EA 1.3, 2.1, 2.2, 3.2)
