Course overview

To further prepare students for their roles as engineering practitioners. The course will develop their understanding of professional engineering practice and management in relation to employers, employees, clients, professionals from other disciplines and society in general. Activities will connect students with practising engineers through specialist lectures, exercises to develop generic skills, networking, and participation in professional engineering activities.

Course learning outcomes

  • Explain the roles and responsibilities of engineering practitioners, managers and leaders
  • Apply basic principles, techniques and practices of engineering project management
  • Discuss the non-technical aspects of engineering management, including human, social, ethical, environmental, legal, economic and cultural factors
  • Select information from a range of sources and critically review complex contemporary engineering issues
  • Communicate with greater effectiveness and confidence in meetings, presentations, interviews and negotiations
