Course overview
This course will explain the fundamental concepts of electrical and electronic systems, and apply these principles in practical applications. This course will explain the principles of electrical systems and electronic circuits . Topics that will be covered include: electrical quantities, units of measurement, Ohms Law, Kirchhoff Current Law, Kirchhoff Voltage Law, capacitors, inductors, transients, diodes, simplerational amplifiers, relays, electronic switching, transformers, electromagnetic fundamentals, energy sources and energy storage.
Course learning outcomes
- List the functions of electrical and electronic components, and analyse simple circuits and systems. (PO 1) (EA 1.1, 1.2)
- Explain the fundamental properties of electrical energy, its generation, transmission, distribution and utilisation. (PO 1) (EA 1.1, 1.2)
- Operate electrical instrumentation to take measurements on electrical circuits and systems. (PO 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9) (EA 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 3.2, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6)
- Design and build simple electrical systems (PO 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9) (EA 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 3.2, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6)
