Course overview
This course aims to equip students with understanding of the key principles and practical applications necessary for the design and analysis of structures under wind and earthquake loads. By delving into the behaviour of single and multi-degree-of-freedom structural dynamic systems, wind dynamics, seismic activities, and the latest design methodologies and standards, students will learn to analyse and design structures that can withstand dynamic loads. The course integrates theoretical knowledge with practical skills using advanced computational tools and adherence to Australian Standards. By the end of this course, students will possess the expertise to design safer and more resilient structures.
- Structural Dynamics
- Earthquake Engineering
- Wind Engineering
Course learning outcomes
- Describe the basic principles of structural dynamics
- Explain basic principles governing earthquake and wind loading of structures and analyse structural responses to seismic and wind loads
- Evaluate structural responses to seismic and wind loads and explain the key ideas and assumptions underpinning design
- Apply modern design principles and standards for earthquake and wind-resistant structures
