Course overview
This course equips students with the fundamentals of sustainable structural steel design including the design of beams, columns, frames and trusses for bending shear and axial loads and the design of connections.
Course learning outcomes
- Understand and apply the principles of structural steel design including the interaction between sectional and member behaviour as it relates to strength and bucking
- Analyse and design members subjected to the single and combined actions of axial loading, bending and shear according to Australian Standard AS4100
- Demonstrate application of Australian Standard AS4100 to the design of typical steel structures
- Understand the environmental impact of steel construction and apply this knowledge to the design of steel structures
