Course overview

The aim of this course is to: continue to develop students' in-depth understanding of structural principles in reinforced and pre-stressed concrete structure; enable students to use advanced analysis and design techniques in concrete structures; provide an overview of pre-tensioned and post-tensioned design; analysis and design for flexure, serviceability and losses; apply these techniques to bridge design; research advances in concrete design.

Course learning outcomes

  • Knowledge of concrete structures including prestressed concrete structures and gain technical competence in design of prestressed concrete members for strength, stability and serviceability.
  • Critically review recent research in advanced concrete design and analysis.
  • Competence in advanced structural analysis and design techniques for concrete structures.
  • Command of Australian and international standards.
  • The ability to communicate design processes and outcomes in a manner acceptable to the engineering profession, through calculations and drawings.
