Course overview

This course aims to develop students' capacity to meaningfully integrate literacy and numeracy across the curriculum. A key focus will be on critically examining prevailing conceptions of literacy and numeracy, and analysing how national and international standardized assessments powerfully shape and constrain teaching and learning in these domains. Students will interrogate the assumptions, values and ideologies underpinning dominant approaches, and explore alternative frameworks that recognize the diverse funds of knowledge learners bring. The goal is to develop more expansive, equitable and contextually-responsive practices for embedding literacy and numeracy - informed by critical perspectives.
