Course overview
In this course, students will design, carry out and critically reflect on a project which combines theory and practice in education in a particular context. Students undertake a project which may take a variety of forms. One possibility is a curriculum resource, such as a set of learning materials, a film or video, a set of tests, a curriculum guide, or a text book which reflects clear understanding of the field and is critically evaluated. Another possibility is a work-based project related to an aspect of education as it applies to students' own educational setting. A further possibility is an investigation into policies and/or practices that apply to a particular educational setting.
Course learning outcomes
- Determine and define a problem, based on an area of personal/professional interest and need, and develop it into a question for investigation or a plan for the production of an education resource
- Prepare a rationale for a project which reflects an understanding of the problem/ issue/question and the literature surrounding it
- Undertake an investigation or develop a curriculum product/pedagogical approach
- Critically reflect upon and evaluate both the process and the outcome of the project
