Course overview

This course aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to enhance their ability to operate effectively within groups and to plan to facilitate the learning of social skills as future educators in Primary school settings. This psychosocial course draws on foundations in group dynamics and positive psychology to explore the complexities of effective group functioning and to understand human behaviour. There is a focus on personal responsibility and the application of key ideas to social and emotional development in primary education. The course places a strong emphasis on the process of reflective evaluation and transformation to build team effectiveness and promote personal development. Experiential learning tasks connect and integrate theory and practice throughout the course, and they provide a range of opportunities to develop skills in collaboration, communication and leadership capacities to influence group functioning.
