Course overview

This course explores more complex Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara language features and texts. Students will develop translation and interpreting skills and establish an understanding of complex grammar and issues for translation. This includes exploring ethical and practical issues relating to Aboriginal language translation and interpreting.

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate advanced language skills in Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara and its grammatical structures
  • Develop language learning resources in Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara with regard to ethical protocols and needs of Anangu people and learners of their languages
  • Critically evaluate issues of ethics, power and voice for Aboriginal language communities utilising translation, interpretation and participatory activity skills
