Course overview
This course will introduce preservice teachers to the Australian Curriculum for English and to a range of pedagogical and assessment approaches for designing lesson sequences for diverse learners in the secondary years. Preservice teachers will explore the content of the Australian Curriculum for English at secondary level and the content and requirements of SACE English courses. They will consider the theories, principles, methods and pedagogical approaches for integrating reading, writing, speaking and listening throughout the secondary English curriculum. Preservice teachers will appraise a wide range of text types, genres and literature appropriate for the study of English at secondary level. They will develop key aspects of their professional practice as secondary English teachers, including planning and preparation of a positive learning framework, pedagogy and assessment approaches. Preservice teachers will plan and teach a short teaching sequence and design a more developed curriculum unit.
