In this course, students will study relevant contemporary theory, practices and curriculum for arts education in secondary schooling, including reference to a range of approaches for diversity and inclusion. Students will deepen their understanding of arts education through detailed investigation of arts-based approaches applied to teaching in secondary arts disciplines. Students will employ a range of pedagogical tools in planning for effective teaching in their own arts subject area, giving consideration to curriculum scope and sequencing, and implementation of authentic assessment in the arts. Students will undertake practical work demonstrating skills in relation to the Australian Curriculum and AITSL Professional Standards, and reflect on decisions they make for teaching curriculum content within their arts discipline areas, including approaches to embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and differentiating content and pedagogies to meet diverse student needs.
