Course overview
This course will provide preservice teachers with foundational knowledge of arts education—its history, theories, and practices—pertinent to their future roles as secondary school arts educators with distinct specialisations in Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music, or Visual Arts. Preservice teachers will undertake a critically reflective audit of their existing knowledge, skills, and understanding in Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music, or Visual Arts in relation to curriculum frameworks and professional standards (e.g. ACARA and AITSL). Through practical learning activities, preservice teachers will learn about a range of arts pedagogies and plan for progression and assessment in the arts. Readings in the history and philosophy of arts education will support theoretical underpinnings for all course content.
