Course overview
This course will extend students' expertise as cutting edge professionals through engagement in critical analysis of the dynamic and interconnected wellbeing issues and priorities influencing education from a multi-disciplinary perspective, and to build capacity to demonstrate and lead development of the knowledge, engagement, research and ethical professional practice for sustained school community wellbeing. Students will build capacity to nurture the wellbeing of students, educator/teacher wellbeing, and development of well school communities which contribute to sustained academic achievement and holistic wellbeing. Students will engage in critical analysis, problem solving and application of knowledge and skills addressing themes of technology, bullying/cyberbullying, community, spirituality, social/emotional, marginalisation, diversity and futures thinking while working and leading a professional learning community with educators committed to exploring wellbeing initiatives.
Course learning outcomes
- Critically analysing definitions of wellbeing.
- Critical analysis of empirical and theoretical wellbeing issues including bullying/cyberbullying and implications for policy, curriculum, practice and pedagogy
- Critique technological influences on wellbeing (i.e. social media and cyber space) and design initiatives for positive application
- Investigate and analyse holistic school community approaches to wellbeing
- Interrogate the interrelations between learner/educator wellbeing; learner wellbeing and academic achievement
- Designing creative problem solving initiatives to promote wellbeing inclusive of all, addressing issues for marginalised, diverse and rural/remote populations
- Leading ethical and professional practice in wellbeing education
