Course overview

To develop a deep, conceptual and foundational content knowledge in geographical studies through exploring the content and skills of the Australian Curriculum: Geography. To develop the capacity to think geographically through geographical concepts and key content areas that underpin the geography curriculum. Inquiry and research skills will also be honed to support the teaching of engaging, critical and creative geography in the primary school setting.

Course learning outcomes

  • Understand and apply knowledge of the Australian Curriculum HaSS: Geography to plan relevant and engaging learning experiences and quality assessment
  • Apply geographical skills of spatial analysis and mapping and undertake quality geographical fieldwork
  • Think geographically through applying the geographical concepts
  • Understand pedagogical content knowledge involved in teaching HaSS: Geography
