Course overview
In this course, students will investigate processes and strategies for engaging participation, analysing game play and movement capabilities with a focus on developing teaching practices to advance learning and skill performance by all learners. Students will analyse, critically reflect upon and apply principles of the Play Practice approach to evaluate learning environments, appraise strategies for sustained engagement, evaluate the alignment of learning tasks to participant capabilities and plan differentiated learning experiences. Students will investigate theoretical constructs from dynamical systems, complexity thinking, socio-critical and non-linear teaching/ coaching approaches to enact, and critically reflect upon evidence of impact on participant learning.
Course learning outcomes
- Recognise and document individual diversity in movement capabilities and characteristics associated with the spectrum of beginner to expert performers
- Devise and structure learning situations accommodating diverse learners that are aligned, inclusive, safe, challenging, success orientated and maximise opportunity for participation and learning
- Analyse the movement demands evident for the spectrum of beginner to expert performers in a variety of sports and appraise the strategies for engaging and progressing learning for all
- Evaluate theory and demonstrate the ability to apply theory in shaping, focusing and enhancing learning using Play Practice principles
