Course overview
This course aims to enable learners to plan and facilitate relevant, engaging, and inclusive sport experiences for a diverse range of players. The course deeply explores activity analysis and pedagogical principles of teaching and coaching sport, focusing on applying previous studies of ecological dynamics from motor learning in coaching and teaching sport, and the implications for engaging and developing skilled players in different sports from beginner to elite level. The course will develop capabilities to apply play practice principles to teach and coach sports, challenge learners to think critically and creatively and explore the educational benefits of participation in sport to build a personal philosophy of teaching and coaching sport. Theory, practice, and pedagogy are all interconnected, aligned with preparing graduates to apply contemporary games-based principles to foster enjoyment and inclusive participation and to develop skilfulness in a range of sports as a teacher or coach.

- Analyse the complex nature of skilled performance and the interdependent playing demands for a diversity of learners in different activity types and sports
- Identify strategies to foster enjoyment, engagement and inclusive participation in sports
- Evaluate pedagogical practices and theory influencing the development of confident and competent players in various types of sport play practices through active participation and dialogic critique
- Apply relevant pedagogical content knowledge to plan and teach a sequence of engaging and success-orientated learning episodes in sport
