Course overview
This course will introduce students as preservice teachers to the broad scope of Design and Technology Education and the spectrum of competing influences and values which shape the Learning area. Students as preservice teachers will develop knowledge about Design and Technology through discussion and practical activities. Key ideas addressed through discussion include; exploring the educational challenges presented by economics, vocationalisation and cultural stereotypes, balancing generalist versus specialist contestation, and product versus process. Through practical activities preservice teachers will be introduced to the broad concepts of design and production techniques.

- Demonstrate knowledge of Design and Technology curriculum
- Demonstrate an understanding of the centrality of critiquing and designing to sustainable technological practice
- Articulate a defence of Design and Technology Education as a component of the general education of all school students
- Critically analyse their personal potential and limitations as beginning Design and Technology Education professionals
