Course overview
This course will deepen and extend preservice teachers' traditional and contemporary drama and visual arts subject knowledge for work in school settings. Preservice teachers will learn active and collaborative drama and visual arts methodologies and strategies that will develop drama and visual arts techniques and strategies for the creation of works. Drama and visual arts curriculum knowledge and practices will be explored and evaluated in relation to appropriate pedagogies for diverse young learners.
Course learning outcomes
- Employ an understanding of the role and function of Drama and Visual Arts in diverse contemporary communities and their impact upon young people
- Identify traditional and contemporary approaches to Drama and Visual Arts in curriculum decision making and research
- Experience creative body-based learning in Drama and Visual Arts
- Apply current and appropriate pedagogies for working with Drama and Visual Arts
- Identify Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander storytelling and visual arts as intrinsic to Australian cultural knowledge, understanding and communication
- Articulate the intrinsic and instrumental value of Drama, and Visual Arts in the school curriculum
- Employ reflective practice in working as an active teacher/artist educator
