Course overview

This course will deepen and extend traditional and contemporary dance and music subject knowledge. Working with dance and music pedagogies students will gain mastery of these subjects for the school setting. Students will learn active and collaborative dance and music methodologies and strategies that will develop movement and music vocabulary for the creation of works. Dance and music curriculum knowledge and practices will be explored and evaluated in relation to appropriate pedagogies for diverse young learners.

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the role and function of Dance and Music in diverse contemporary communities and their impact upon young people
  • Identify traditional and contemporary approaches to Dance and Music in curriculum decision making and research
  • Experience and reflect critically on dance and music practices for curriculum implementation
  • Apply current and appropriate pedagogies for Dance and Music
  • Identify Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Dance and Music as intrinsic to Australian cultural knowledge, understanding and communication
  • Articulate the intrinsic and instrumental value of Dance and Music in the school curriculum
  • Demonstrate reflective practice in working as an active teacher/artist educator
