Course overview
This course will prepare students as preservice teachers to construct appropriate learning experiences for students in Primary years of schooling HPE. Through on-line, place-based and face-to-face workshop experiences, Preservice Teachers (PSTs) will engage with advanced pedagogies in HPE to promote engagement, learning and catering for the needs of diverse primary school student cohorts. Specifically, PSTs will engage in negotiated learning experiences to explore culturally responsive pedagogies, inquiry-based approaches, creative body-based and placed-based pedagogies and integration. These negotiated learning experiences will support PSTs in developing inclusive teaching, learning and assessment strategies in primary school HPE.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of breadth in HPE pedagogies and application in planning to enhance learning for diverse student cohorts
- Apply curriculum frameworks and a range of teacher resources to plan learning experiences in HPE
- Explore the use of community spaces as these relate to promoting engagement and learning in HPE.
- Demonstrate knowledge of pedagogical inquiry as it applies to HPE
- Develop a critical pedagogical focus to promote engagements and enhanced learning outcomes for diverse student leaners in HPE
