Course overview

This course aims to provide students with foundation understanding and knowledge of education from key theoretical approaches. It will also provide students with skills to apply these approaches to and reflect about their learning, and to examine contemporary education issues. Throughout the course, students will be introduced to key theories in education and will examine how these theories explain the role of school in society, teaching and learning processes, and consider the implications for their own learning and future professional practice. They will also be introduced to contemporary education issues to critically apply these theories to address the diversity in education.

  • Comprehend the historical, philosophical, sociological, and psychological foundations of education
  • Evaluate and reflect on learning and teaching processes for the development of strategies to support a student population with diverse leaning needs
  • Examine contemporary education issues with the application of key theories and reflect on personal philosophy and interest in education
