Course overview
This course will develop preservice teachers' understanding of the humanities and social sciences curriculum, including the curriculum content, substance and structure as well as strategies for effective planning, teaching and assessment. Preservice teachers will develop a deep understanding of the content and structure of the Australian humanities and social sciences secondary curriculum. Preservice teachers will develop a range of teaching and learning strategies appropriate for the learning area including planning for and a range of abilities using a range of resources including ICT.
Course learning outcomes
- Describe the nature and purpose of humanities and social sciences in the lower secondary school curriculum
- Communicate understandings of history, geography and civics and citizenship and economics and business within a curriculum framework
- Discuss a range of methodological approaches and strategies that can be used to enhance the teaching and learning of the humanities and social sciences in the lower secondary school
- Critique a variety of humanities and social sciences teaching and learning resources
- Substantiate personal perspectives of the roles, skills and attributes of effective teachers of the humanities and social sciences in the lower secondary school
