Course overview
This course will deepen preservice teachers' specialised pedagogical content knowledge relevant to the teaching of early childhood mathematical education. To enhance preservice teachers' professional engagement by developing skills and understanding for leading mathematics education in a range of early childhood contexts. Preservice teachers will critically understand the nature of specialised content knowledge for teaching mathematics. They will be challenged to develop and reflect on their own self-concept regarding mathematical capabilities. Preservice teachers will examine and critique teaching and learning approaches and interventions in a range of early childhood contexts. They will explore contemporary issues relevant to leading Mathematics education.

- Critique the nature of the specialised content knowledge for teaching mathematics
- Analyse theoretically, the impact of educator disposition and confidence on the learning environment
- Evaluate a range of approaches to leading mathematics education in a range of early childhood contexts
- Examine and critique teaching and learning approaches and interventions for early childhood mathematics education
- Plan for learning that builds on existing conceptual understanding to extend and provide differentiated, problem-solving learning experiences around children's natural curiosity
